Nancy Matsumoto is a freelance writer and editor who specializes in the areas of regenerative agriculture, food, sake, arts and culture. She has been a contributor to The Wall Street Journal, Time, Newsweek, TheAtlantic.com, People, Food & Wine, Saveur, The Los Angeles Times, Civil Eats, NPR/The Salt, and Edible Manhattan, among other publications. A holder of three sake certifications, she is currently co-writing a book on Japanese sake culture due out from Tuttle Publishing in 2021. Another of her books, the English-language translation of a Japanese book of tanka poetry, By the Shore of Lake Michigan, is due out in 2020 from UCLA’s Asian American Studies Press.
Other books include Displaced: Manzanar 1942-1945 and The Race. Her book The Parent's Guide to Eating Disorders: Supporting Self-Esteem, Healthy Eating & Positive Body Image at Home, co-written with Dr. Marcia Herrin, is the winner of a National Parenting Publication award. Nancy is a 2018 Stone Barns Exchange Fellow in agriculture and climate change. She also writes frequently on Japanese American issues. She is based in Toronto and New York City.
